ELIXIR Biohackathon is a yearly event that brings together developers working on all major ELIXIR projects, as well as external partners from countries outside ELIXIR such as the United States and Japan. This year the Biohackathon will take place November 9-13 in a virtual format due to the Covid-19 pandemics. There are less than 100 seats still left so everyone interested to participate should hurry up and register for the Biohackathon at this link. Registration is cost-free. In the registration form you can hand-pick the project that you want to attend at the Biohackathon from a long list of exciting topics (check out the list of topics here).
The Biomedical Genomics Lab at IRB Barcelona (ELIXIR Spain) has identified 568 cancer driver genes from 66 types of cancer. These findings have been added to the Integrative OncoGenomics platform (IntOGen), which aims to identify driver genes in cancer mutations. The findings have also been published in Nature Reviews Cancer.
The webinar is intended for ELIXIR Community members who want to develop training courses and materials. It will take place on Wednesday, 9 September 2020 at 12:00-13:00 CEST.
The presenters will cover how you can contribute to the Training Platform and benefit from its services. The presenters will also cover the impact of training, the best impact metrics, and training optimization strategies.
The European 1+ Million Genomes Initiative (1+MG) wants to find out which genomic datasets and corresponding phenotypic/clinical information are already available in the participating countries. The initiative also wants to know the obstacles for sharing data.
What is the impact of bioinformatics publications from countries around the globe? Colleagues from ELIXIR Greece wrote this revealing paper that highlights the high productivity of top 40 countries in the world in bioinformatics research. These countries generate 96 % of the entire world’s scientific output in bioinformatics.
We are proud to announce that an article where ELIXIR-SI members are co-authors has been published. You can read the article “A framework to assess the quality and impact of bioinformatics training across ELIXIR” here.
The ELIXIR-SI eLearning Platform (EeLP) is now listed on the ELIXIR Europe website as one of the ELIXIR Training Platform services. This is another recognition for the creators of the platform which enables a single access point to all materials, information, tools and services for ELIXIR training courses.
In a little more than four years since the platform launch we already hosted 37 courses, and this number is expected to grow as existing face-to-face courses are transformed into e-learning courses due to the COVID-19 pandemics.
The ELIXIR All Hands Meeting (AHM), an annual meeting of all ELIXIR contributors, took place online on June 8-12. Our Node actively participated in the presentation of the Service Bundle concept for education about rare diseases. The Bundle will link e-learning with cloud computing infrastructure. Our goal is to organize training courses using high-performance computers for practical training. ELIXIR Slovenia also took part in the presentation of the ELIXIR Training Platform at the Human Data Community annual meeting that was part of AHM.
ELIXIR organizes All Hands Meeting (AHM) every year, where ELIXIR employees from all nodes meet. For this year, the meeting was scheduled in Amsterdam as a live event, but we had to change plans due to COVID-19. AHM will thus take place virtually this year. You can read more about the event, including rules for registration and submission of abstracts and posters here.
